I wish I had sat down and read Dragonfly in Amber in one sitting. Claire and Jamie are beginning to work their way into the favorite characters (and couple) category. I knew when I was finished that I wanted to read them all. When I picked the book to read as part of a challenge last year, I did not know that it was part of a series. I was completely floored by Outlander. Diana Gabaldon has written a masterpiece. I feel like I've been taken on a history lesson that is much more personal than any book or teacher could ever have shown me. But, its wonderful.
I love their relationship and to what grounds they will go to portray (notice I don't use the word prove) their love for one another. So, in that sense it's my fault that I sometimes got confused over who was who. It was a story like I've never read before. They invoke a powerful mental picture. Instead I drew it out over a couple months, reading here and there. Because lets face it, there's a lot of people and even more information presented in this book. The events that happen in this story are also of high emotion and intensity. I can not wait to see were she takes Claire and Jamie next.
Fantastic - good price, quick delivery, excellent condition - thanks once again to Amazon marketplace.
The OUTLANDER series is a magnificent saga, historically correct and beautifully written, with characters that stay in your mind even after you've finished the books. This is book 2, and the reader, Davina Porter, is wonderful, consistently giving voices to each person in the story, and getting all the nuances right-on. I recommend this book and this series to anyone who appreciates fully-fleshed characters, rich detail, historical accuracy, and a gift for dialogue that ranges from savage to humor without a flinch.
The part in France is pretty good, but it takes about 200 pages to get there, and the fun abruptly ends and they head back to Scotland. The first time I tried to read DRAGONFLY I only got about 40 pages in before giving up.
I liked OUTLANDER. I don't get why this book is so popular.
Unique love story, but this one is a real struggle.I gave up on it 640 pages in after 3 months of TRYING, trying TRYING to get through this book. It's slow to start. Very readable.
Fun. You think Brianna is going to be a larger part of the story but she's not.
Scotland is where it gets boring again. Also, the back suggests that there is a lot of hot sexy action, but there is none.
It gave me chills when I found out Jamie was still alive (although I knew so in the back of my mind anyway). I was really into it at the beginning and toward the end, but throughout the middle of the book it was very slow and boring at times. I just finished this 2nd book in the Outlander series and I enjoyed the book very much. I think there was a lot in this book that didn't really need to be in it. I had a hard time finishing this one where as Outlander I read through very fast because I was so anxious to see what was going to happen. I really loved the ending of this book. I still loved the book and enjoyed reading it, but she could have left out a lot and it would have been just as good if not better. I haven't finished the other books, but am hoping they aren't all as slow as this one was.
